Are you searching for the living among the dead?

So he decided to go check the list anyway. He knew he would fail. Unlike his friends, he did terrible in the board exams. If he was not in the "Just passed" list ( Third class), he had failed. He got there and confirmed that he failed which, to him, reconfirmed that he was a failure.

His mum knew he hadn’t done well. So he skipped going home and headed straight for the river that snaked into a curve a short distance away from his house. The failed boy stood on the banks looking at the water. He finally saw in his reflection what failure looked like. From a distance, he saw a crowd gathering at his house and his heart began to beat faster. His mum must have come to know and something must have happened to her. As he raced into the crowd, he found his mother on the floor, tears in her eyes, seated against the wall. He was confused.

Then his teacher appeared from the crowd, and shook his hands for becoming the first student from his village to obtain a first class in the board examinations. None of this made sense to him. He had checked the list and confirmed that... Wait! He had checked only the third class list, since he was certain of failure. He had looked in the wrong place. He was way more worth than his own expectations of himself, and he was terribly wrong about the terrible exams. In fact, he was the pride of the village. Someone had to tell him that.

Perhaps you have been looking for meaning and fulfillment in the wrong place. The truth is, that you have been searching tombs while the one who gives meaning and fulfills ( in other words, saves - from your own damaging expectations of yourself and their consequences) is not to be found there. Perhaps you have been searching for life and living among that which is dead. Easter is a day of resurrection, not just for our sorry selves, but also for those who are in sorry states of life due to our deeds or systems that perpetrate violence, deception and injustice.

Easter releases life into our dead lives, and transforms our sorry selves into channels of life. Jesus Christ appeared in a human body. He died in a human body. He resurrected in a human body and gives life to every-'body'. Even yours. The question is: Where are you looking for life?

May I invite you to identify the tombs that you have been searching. Try to get to know Jesus Christ, because there seems to be a whole new realm of living that is possible in relationship with him. I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, he said, and through the cross and resurrection, that seems to have come true. So this one is for you.

"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, he is risen!" (Luke 24:5-6). Live like you are actually alive, through a transformative relationship with your creator, revealed in Jesus Christ. And then we can become an instrument of transformation of the structures of evil, injustice and decay, through the one who gives and is life.

Happy Easter!
